Guest performance in Saint-Petersburg of comparatively young orchestra, which is only 7 years old, surprised listeners of the Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall with the selected complicated program, bright firework of names and premiere.
On November 18 Symphonica ARTica, conducted by director Natalia Bazaleva, performed the symphonic fantasy “Arcticа” of Yakutian composer Nikolay Mikheev for the first time in Saint-Petersburg. It seemed like the composition brought the guests to the Arctic wides with mood and weather change, with Yakutian national motives, with clearness of sound and air.
“Wonderful concert! Especially the “Arctica” of the young composer, who draws the severe and inimitable beauty of the Northern nature with a help of music means” – the listeners shared their opinions during the entr’acte.
The concert’s various palette was anyhow connected with the Arctic region. The performance of Beethoven by Yakutian musician, graduate of the Higher Music School of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and Moscow Music Conservatory, laureate of international competitions, pianist Sergey Tanin took the listeners’ breath away. He presented “the Concert for Pianoforte with Orchestra № 4 G-major” in a sensual and expert manner.
“The Concert for Cello with Orchestra B-minor” written by Antonín Dvořák sounded brightly by Finnish celloist Martti Rousi. It stands to mention, that Martti Rousi is a Professor of the Sibelius-Akatemia in Helsinki, laureate of the II prize in the Tchaikovsky International Competition (1986). The musician features with leading European and Scandinavian orchestras.
“Lyrical assonance of the huge orchestra with the emotional soloist (cello) from Finland Martti Rousi with national musical elements took our breath away” – the listeners said.
“Virtuosic presentation of such complicated works by the orchestra and the soloists, worthly to be performed in famous halls of the Mariinsky Theatre is, by all means, the merit of the Art Director of Yakutian Philharmonic Natalia Bazaleva” – Boris Kozlovskiy said.

In the Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall were many foreign guests, connoisseurs of classic music, countrymen, young generation. They listened with high interest and applauded enthusiastically to every presented composition. The success of Symphonica ARTica became a worthy conclusion of the concert tour, gave invaluable experience to all the participants and great satisfaction to the guests.
