May 19 in the concert hall of the Theatre of Opera and Ballet a unique international project “Yakutia & Korea presents…” took place. Grandiose musical symbiosis of Northern and Eastern cultures occurred with the cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and Spiritual development of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Consulate General of the South Korea in Irkutsk, the State Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after D. K. Sivtsev – Suorun Omolloon and the State Philharmonia of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) named after G. M. Krivoshapko.
The atmosphere of Eastern holiday was created by students of the Institute of Foreign Philology and Regional Studies of the Department of Eastern languages of the North-Eastern Federal University named after M. K. Ammosov, who were meeting guests in national Korean costumes.
With opening speech vice minister of culture and spiritual development of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Vladislav Lyovochkin and consul general of the Republic of Korea in Irkutsk Pak Chon Nam addressed to the public. In their speech they made a stress on the moment of cultural exchange importance and wished further cooperation between Yakutia and Korea.
In the program of the concert works of international classicists: P. Tchaikovsky, W. Mozart, D. Shostakovich and D. Rodrigo, F. Doppler, V. Herber, M. Brukh, F. Poulenc, I. Stravinsky, A. Borodin, N. Mikheev, sounded. Special Eastern catch of the main conductor of the concert orchestra of Seoul No Ta Chol was expressed in the way he conducted the symphonic orchestra “Symphonica ARTica” of the Philharmonia of Yakutia. Incredible Eastern zest, academic restraint, elegance of movements – all this was brightly expressed in the works performed on the concert.
The soloists from the South Korea, who performed with the “Symphonica ARTica”, demonstrated to listeners the play on various musical instruments. Duets sounded in a very interesting way: Park Tae Hwan (flute) and Jang Ja Huin (harp), Park Tae Hwan (flute) and Song Sun Hee (violin), piano-forte duet by Kim Hyun Young, Kim Hyena. The Concert № 1 for cello with orchestra by D. Shostakovich was performed by Lee Ji Yun (cello). The Aria of Queen of the night from the opera “Magic Flute” by W. Mozart and Italian songs of V. Herber was performed by Jin Yun Hee (soprano). With a storm of applause guitar player Jun Jangsu was met. The soloist’s performance differed by a special spiritual warm-heartedness – the way he was playing made one think he did not play guitar but strings of a human soul, performing 2 parts from Aranjuez concert by J. Rodrigo. The public applauded to high achiever of culture of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), laureate of international competitions Andrey Dedyukin (viola) for long. The soloist performed the Romance for viola and orchestra by M. Brukh.
In the second part of the concert the symphonic orchestra “Symphonica ARTica” performed works by P. Tchaikovsky, I. Stravinsky, A. Borodin and N. Mikheev under conduction of No Ta Chol and Natalya Bazaleva. The symphonic picture “Wish” by N. Mikheev became an original friendly reply towards foreign guests, who noticed that Yakutian and Korean music have much in common.
An unexpected surprise the Korean conductor No Ta Chol presented to the listeners. He asked them: “Do you know Gangnam style?”, and having heard a positive answer he replied humorously: “I Don’t know”. So, in an easy atmosphere under a storm of applause with “Gangnam style” performance unforgettable evening of Yakutia and Korea came to the end.
Comments:
Mr No Ta Chol (the main conductor of the Concert orchestra of Seoul, art director and the main conductor of the orchestra “Pyong Thec Philharmonia”, professor of Pyong Thec University):
The symphonic orchestra “Symphonica ARTica” is very young. First, I thought how to work with them, it is very important for an orchestra to understand what their conductor needs from them. But, as the musicians are very young they can work hard, they grasp in a single flash, they are persevering. All this makes a young orchestra differ from “old” one. With young orchestra it is easy to make new experience, the musicians to conform and this is, with no doubt, a big advantage. I have many plans in Russia. Further I go to Ulan-Ude, after it – to Volgograd. At the end of June in Moscow we shall hold 8 concerts with Moscow orchestra. In July in Omsk I as a general director will attend a musical festival in Omsk. The city is 300 years this year, musicians from all over the world will gather together. Hereafter I would like to cooperate with Philharmonia of Yakutia, I wish all the best!”
I am all steamed up about the concert! I can singularize our Yakutian soloist Andrey Dedyukin. Among Korean soloists – the harp player Jang Ja Huin. Both conductors – Natalya Bazaleva and No Ta Chol, they were at their best. Very colourful, unforgettable evening”.

“I liked the guitar performance very much. We have Korean origin, that is why we came to encourage the young soloists. I am fond of Natalya Bazaleva conducting”
